wasn't Jesus referring to gentiles in his parable of the lost sheep? Not exactly. He was referring to those who believe in Him, and those among them who drift away from the fold. Gentiles could come to be included in this fold, certainly, if they express the same kind of faith Abraham did (who was originally a "Gentile" who became a believer). Conversely, many of the Jewish nation, He called "outsiders" (Mark 4:11) and even "brood of vipers," (Matt. 23:33).

He also made a sharp distinction between His own and those of the world. For example, He said "behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. . . " (Matt. 10:16) So, He does use an unclean animal to refer to unbelievers (whether Jew or Gentile); in this case, a predatory animal.
