I think honesty and recognition of the great pain people are in is the true compassion. Candy coated aphorisms notwithstanding, the best offers of comfort is the simple recognition of the absolute grief that such losses mean for people. If my family member was killed, and someone started spewing this crapola, I'd be thinking "go f*ck yourself - you haven't lost sh!t or you wouldn't be saying something so incredibly stupid (well intended or not)." Then I'd force a smile and say "Thank you."

You have an opinion,

I have an opinion... My opinion:

<<Just because a person does not use her way , it is very bad taste, IMO, to dis her way..>>

So how do people here know that her statement, trivialized death and suffering?? How do they also know, that it didn't help many people?? Just because it was slightly different from the established line, does it make it wrong ??... I don't think so IMO..

I didn't see the service, just references to Oprah's comment. Maybe some of the statements made by others , trivialized the suffering to others. Maybe they were well-meaning, but misdirected too.

I don't know and I don't think OTHERS here do either
