It is NOT that simple. The problem is that the a-theistic (as it should be) state has grown and engulfed aspects of society which individual minds and consciences should be controlling. The state is the opposite of a pluralistic entity.

either one is committed to a pluralistic society, and the separation of church and state, or not.

That liberal democracy is the ultimate cause of losing God's favor is bound to be controversial,

I saw the words as a condemnation of the choices made and not a condemnation of the right to chose. The ACLU is very selective in the choices of choices that they defend.
