Market Update from Briefing.com / 3pm ET

The volatility has slowed slightly but the market averages continue to hold on to the session's impressive gains. The next area of resistance for the Nasdaq comes into play in the 1600 area. This is roughly its 20 day exp moving average and a retracement of the last leg lower. While the gains has been broad based in nature, groups that have not participated in the rally include: gold (-4.3%), oil (-0.75%), healthcare (-1.7%) and consumer goods (-0.5%). Very strong volume totals seen with the Nasdaq above the 2 bln level. Volume ratio is 8 to 1 for the Nasdaq and roughly 10 to 3 for the NYSE. DOT +7.4%, XOI -0.8%, SOX +9.9%, NYSE Adv/Dec 2064/1024, Nasdaq Adv/Dec 2329/1216
