*OT* Sun, Can we at least agree that there is black and white when it comes to terrorism? We can argue about root causes all day but terrorism is never acceptable whether done by bin laden, ira, or timothy mc veigh. To blame the US for bin laden as jerome does is dumb. Yes we were involved with the muhajadeen. Yes we split after soviets were defeated. Big mistake. However bin laden really emanates from american military presence in saudi arabia which was installed during gulf war which i feel was just. Afghanistan is a staging area. If not there somewhere else. Problem in the muslim world is much like it was in the christian world in the early and mid 20th century--not enough progressive democratic regimes, not enough economic progress etc. Progress and hope for the future is what these folks need along with democracy at some point. Solely blaming the US for their travail is wrong. And yes America must view the post war world much as we viewed it after ww2 with a marshall plan + the rebuilding of our enemies. We must also impose peace between israel and palestine and enforce it along with nato and UN. mike
