As I recall, I believe we now only get 12% of our oil from the Middle East; the rest comes from some moose-begotten land west of Canada.

It would crimp our economy but not kill it. Japan, on the other hand, would fall on that sword. Which would, like dominoes, topple our markets into depression.

In consideration of all the costs for that oil, however, our refusal to develop real energy alternates, with government subsidies like nukes and synfuels got, is madness.

the CIA estimates, (at least this is what they’re telling us), that by 2015 - only one-tenth of Persian Gulf oil will be directed to Western markets; three-quarters will go to Asia. and that - global energy markets will have coalesced into two quasi-hemispheric patterns. Asia's energy needs will be met either through coal from the region or from oil and gas supplies from the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, and Russia. Western Europe and the Western Hemisphere will draw on the Atlantic Basin for their energy sources at world prices.

In December last year the CIA published an impressive report called Global Trends 2015: A Dialogue About the Future With Nongovernment Experts.

It is long, but touches on many of the issues being discussed here. Folks that haven’t already seen it may find it to be a very interesting read.

Cobalt btw, what are you talking about re the !Kong. Did you make up that name? The people of the Kalahari refer to themselves as the SAN or KHOI-SAN. Bushmen is a derogatory term created by European Imperialists and Racists. Your slip is showing.

"Cheap oil" is usually said dismissively. The US economy would collapse without oil

Ok then be brave and admit that we have supported the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein, king of Saudi Arabia and kuwait for their cheap oil and screw the ordinary citizens who are being suppressed by these 'leaders' faithful to the US. And we supported Osama Bin ladedn to terrorize Russia.

And if and when these 'leaders' dont do our bidding or allah forbid they should terrorise us, then we will go after them and 'replace' them.

Just be brave and forthright. the saints and sages have said thru the centuries "in the end the victory will be his who is honest and brave".
