Hi Terry Maloney; Re: "Carl, I was with you right up to the part about standing victorious in their capitals ...
From my read of history, that tends to complicate things.
"

Yeah I know. If we'd stood victorious in Tokyo, Berlin, Mexico City, Tripoli, or Richmond Virginia, we'd probably still be fighting the Japanese, the Nazis, the Mexicans, the Barbary pirates and the Confederates. The last thing you want to do is piss off some group of fanatic light infantry types the Afghanistanis! Everybody knows that a modern nation can't defeat an unorganized rabble of mountain people. We learned those lessons the hard way with Geronimo and Pancho Villa. They still have total control of the best parts of this country, including all the best watering holes, trade routes, mining, grazing and farming land, and if we hadn't made honorable peace with them, we'd probably be still fighting those vicious, fanatical and well organized primitive savages.
