CONFUSION CREATES HIJACK DRAMA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

EW DELHI: After more than four hours of anxious moments, Union Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain said the supposed hijacking of the Alliance Air was a creation of confusion caused by false alarm received at the ATC Ahmedabad.

The message to the ATC, which said the plane had been hijacked, was promptly passed on to the pilots who locked the cockpit. All the while, passengers thought the hijackers were inside the cockpit while the pilots were under the impression that the hijackers were with the passengers.

The authorities, not taking any chances, sent a team of NSG commandos into the aircraft, said Shahnawaz Hussain.

The pilots also spoke to Home Minister L K Advani. Advani said there will a thorough probe into the chain of events.

Hi D. Long; Re: "NATO is dead in the 21st century. Foundation US foreign policy is slipping - DO NOT LET ANY ONE POWER OR COLLECTION OF POWERS DOMINATE EURASIA!"

If that is the foundation of US foreign policy, then God help us. The foundation should be the one constant since 1914: "Make the world safe for democracy."

Powerful democracies in Europe and Asia are not a physical danger to us. And it's hard to argue that they're much of an economic threat either. Economic power now is largely in the form of the ability to consume. We're the one with the one best market in the world, speaking the same language from sea to sea, and under a single government.

Biden to propose reconstruction if Afghanistan attacked
October 3, 2001 Posted: 6:38 PM EDT (2238 GMT)

By CNN State Department Correspondent Andrea Koppel and State Department Producer Elise Labott

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Joseph Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is expected to propose legislation for a long-term reconstruction and development plan in Central and South Asia following any military campaign against Afghanistan, an aide to the senator told CNN on Wednesday.

The senator will propose the plan, similar in nature to the Marshall Plan's reconstruction of Europe after World War II, in an effort to create an economic and social climate in which terrorists will not be able to operate, the aide said.

The aide said the initiative would cover Afghanistan and the Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, as well as Pakistan.

"It is about draining the swamp," he said. "(Biden) is looking ahead, thinking strategically about what comes next for the region."

"Draining the swamp"?! LOL! I'm afraid the US's not gonna drain anything while re-building Afghanistan... See, the challenge is much larger and much more dreadful. Sure enough, Afghanistan is a hotbed of subversive Islamic activism and, somehow, acts as a pool of terrorist manpower. Hence, if you crack down on the "terror incubator", you've solved a good deal of the issue --but what about their recruiters?? While the Sept 11 attacks were perpetrated in a terroristic fashion, their prime mover was fascistic in nature: these Islamic hijackers were merely the tools of Eurasia's rising Fascism.
Granted, Zbigniew Brzezinski was right...
