Gotta say I always get a little to eager to buy or sell so I probably pay .02-.03 too much and sell for .02-.03 too little but seem have picked up some winners vs. clunkers this last year so am waiting for those .50-1.00 moves in the future where this discussion doesn't matter. I also think my discount broker is not as cheap as these others mentioned but I seem to get good executions when looking at my final price paid. Now we just need the big long term 2 year to 3 year rally.

I think you are way ahead of me here GT. I have no idea who is between us consumers and the company with pending news. However the fact is that BEFORE news often comes out the market makers are in buying cheap shares to sell once the news is out and people are interested. It works in reverse also.

Also when a penny is on the move limit orders are often ignored by market makers. Forcing the use of market orders by the desperate (only happen to me once!). Of-course with a market order they can move the market up or down a nickel no problem, give you a fill, and they move the market back to where it should be.

Why should I feel screwed?
