Didn't get a chance to read SI yesterday or even watch the stock market, because I had to go into DC and pick up some out-of-town guests at their hotel and spend time with them. The hotel was glad to seem them, because hotels don't have many guests right now, and they both flew to DC on an airline for about 200 bucks round trip---great airline deals can be had right now. <gg>

Husband is a Mid-west lawyer (who appears periodically on CNN discussing a major case that he resolved), and was in town yesterday to attend Supreme Court hearing about genetic engineering of foods. Many of his farm-owning clients are affected by this case.

I was happy to learn he is as much a real estate fan as I am, in terms of long-term investment. In fact, he has bought a farm in Brazil (!) to add to his farm holdings in Illlinois. Nothing beats real estate as an investment, he says. I agree. <gg>> However, he likes vacant land....I have better luck with improved land, but that's a small disagreement which depends on location.

Meanwhile, as an amusing or serious aside (do your own research), he told me he is considering telling his broker to short a few stocks for him in Feb./Mar. 2002--Monsanto, Pioneer, and Novartis--all of which would be adversely affected by the Supreme Court's position on genetic engineering of food crops.

Tradelite, I am aware of that, I was just adding local info to the conversation...

As a matter of fact, I am looking at a condo in SoHo...That would be in NYC, as prices are moderating.
