fyo, you can build on that. Throw turbos, EFI, variable valve timing and the rest in there and engines become as complicated as cpus to rate.

You can put down HP to RPM and Torque to RPM curves and get a pretty good rating of how powerful the engines are. Sure its more complex then just saying an engine has X HP, but its a lot simpler then showing the results of 30 different benchmarks, and since you are measuring the engine not the whole car you don't have to worry about the equivalent of a fast CPU with a slow video card, and a really bad hard drive.
