Junk bonds have very high yields. Higher quality bonds

and preferreds yield much less, for the simple reason that your risks are much lower.

Which is appropriate for you depends upon your risk profile.

The examples in my post were prefaced with comments explaining that they were suited for the "safe money" that you want to minimize your risks with.
