Turkey is arguably the most advanced on separation of church and state, but they've had more time, since Ataturk in the 20's to modernize. Ataturk also wielded a heavy hand, making arab writing illegal, for example. Even after a generation or two under the modern republic, there remains dissension, and it has been growing.

Oh, I believe the Dutch government also allows churches to tax members, or at least it did when I lived there in the early 80s. Might be why most churches were empty -g-

Heinz, I wish things were so simple ......... now we are on the verge of ............. and time is short IMHO. besides separation of state and church, .......... there is the underlying poverty and lack of proper education, ............on the other hand tyrants are running many of those countries with an attitude like that of Saddam Husain, or Asad Sr. in Syria who also leveled Hama as opposition to his regime was brewing there...........

Tolerance is not easily preached and implemented as is war mongering who can promise you the riches of others.

Well, my wish would be to be able to disperse some wisdom freely every were ...... unfortunate wisdom is not a material thing and even more difficult to achieve or find.
