Assuming the Israelis were Jews, why would they be flying to the former Soviet Union, when the case has been made over and over again that the Russians persecuted Jews non-stop?

Or was this flight a diamond and gold smuggling operation?

Drugs as well, perhaps?

<< All passengers on the flight were Israelis, Interfax reported ... >>

Not according to this article: "Siberian Airlines flight 1812 carrying at least 66 passengers and 11 crew members from Tel Aviv has crashed into the Black Sea. Fifty-one of the passengers were Israelis, many of them recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union."
