That may be true, but if they had a sound way of empirically determining their performance rating using real engineering, than I doubt as many people would have a problem with it.

And Tenchusatsu brings up a good point. As micro-architectures change, AMD's system requires constant updates. This would be confusing to the customer. On the other hand, if they don't update, their ratings will become even more stale and inaccurate, leading to more criticism.

That's the risk that they run.
