My dad spent the duration building B-24's. He was never in the service and we never talked much of his experience of the war. The same goes for my mother.

Lately I wonder whether the history we read is worth the paper it's printed on.

Is this sappy and naive?:With our past mistakes and successes in mind, neither of which will ever be fully appreciated, we are nevertheless proud owners of a great country.
