If it is, do you think AMD will be telling the public not to use Pentium 4 as a basis of comparison? Hint hint, winky winky ...

But since the t-bird has higher IPC then a P4 if they compare it against a P4 rather then a t-bird the public will think that AMDs new chips are slower then they really are.

I am sure that AMD won't be upset if that were to occur. But they have a bigger problem in trying to differentiate the Palomino (urrr, Athlon XP) from a plain ol' Athlon. The slowest XP is at 1.33GHz and the fastest Athlon is 1.4GHz, yet AMD wants to sell the 1.33GHz XP for more money. As a result, it needs to have a bigger "number".
