They either have to announce then, or want to. If it is good news, they may want to. If it is bad news, they may have to due to new disclosure rules. Another possibility is news that they are afraid will leak during the weekend; m&a, loss of executive, layoffs that have already happened. I'm leaning to bad news that they want a chance to spin. They saw that some co.s, like NT, got away with bad news with a positive spin.

why would they hold a cc to announce layoffs? a warning before the opening bell would be stupid. something else is going on here, but what?
