Wouldn't IBM face regulatory problems in a prospective merger? I don't think the Justice Dp't would allow it without a major divestiture of parts of one company or the other.

You see SUNW is the only major tech co. that didn't trim head count. All the others did. So that's what the announcement is IMHO. I don't think they will reduce guidance but reaffirm lowered guidance, or say nothing at all and let the numbers speak for themselves.
