<font color=green>This chip rocks. I got to 1.7 ghz (148fsb) without out any problems. This is at 1.85 Vcore, and running at 40c under full load. It passed by rough and ready, quick stability test of pulling two loops of 3dMark2k1 while running Seti in the background.

This is just an awesome chip.

As I was playing with it I was able to boot into Windows even at 1.76 (153 fsb) -- but my machine has always gotten screwy beyond 148 fsb -- and instability reared its head (upping the Vcore did not seem to help). Some component (unfortunately not my easily replaceable NIC) does not like anything over 148 (148 was my limit with my old chip as well). And I don't feel like replacing my GF3, Herc GTXP, my HD's, or any other big ticket items just yet. All this is to say -- if this chip was unlocked, I think I could get a lot more out of it ... a lot more (1.8ghz would seem doable -- so much for the PR rating).

Regardless a nearly 200mhz O/C is nothing to sneeze at -- and doing it at stock voltage just plain rocks.

Is it worth the money?? Not really -- my 1.4 was running at 1.63 (granted at 2.15 Vcore and 49c). But I bought it with Amex Blue so I have some price protection. And I have 7 days to return it if I feel like it -- so I am gonna give it a whirl. If you must know, I paid about $250 for the chip -- but remember, I have Blue to take care of me (so what I really pay is the lowest price on Pricewatch 60 days from today).

Has anyone posted a reliable and safe method for unlocking a Athlon XP yet?

Edit: Here is the 8050 I pulled in 3dMark2k1 Link

from same poster

Just picked it up.

I wish I had a digital camera.

Its definately an all new chip. Its not black like the T-bird. More of a the brown that the P4's are -- I was told the chip is made of fiberglass and not ceramic.

Anyway here is what the chip reads.

AX1800DMT3C
AGKGA0138XPCW
Y6927XXXXXX

Its a new stepping as far as I know -- but its a "Y" and usually that's a good thing.
