I know that the Pentium 4 performs poorly with SDRAM, so I'll do something I don't usually do, and give you the benefit of the doubt! Find your benchmarks that prove it, and then we can discuss performance. Meanwhile, here are benchmarks from Tech Report, one of the most respected Internet review web sites. It has a 1.6GHz Pentium 4 with SDRAM and a 1.2GHz Pentium III Tualatin also with SDRAM. Here are the results.tech-report.com On Business and Content Creation Winston 2001, the Pentium 4 1.6GHz + SDRAM is indeed slower than the 1.2GHz Pentium III + SDRAM by 11-12%. This would probably make the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 close to the speed of the 1GHz Pentium III. On MP3 Encoding, the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 with SDRAM is actually faster than the 1.2GHz Pentium III with SDRAM by more than 5%.tech-report.com On Quake III, the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 with SDRAM is slower than the 1.2GHz Pentium III, but only by less than 5%. It would certainly be faster than a 1GHz Pentium III. On 3DMark 2001, the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 with SDRAM is within 1% of the 1.2GHz Pentium III with SDRAM.tech-report.com On Viewperf, 3 tests favor the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 with SDRAM, and 3 tests favor the 1.2GHz Pentium III with SDRAM, but in all cases, the difference is marginal.tech-report.com In Speech Recognition, the Pentium 4 1.6GHz with SDRAM lags the Pentium III 1.2GHz with SDRAM by 8-11%. This may put the performance closer to the 1GHz Pentium III.tech-report.com In ScienceMark, the Pentium 4 1.6GHz with SDRAM outperforms the Pentium III with SDRAM by more than 4%. Those are the scores, Dan. The Pentium 4 wins some and it loses some. However, in terms of price/performance, the Pentium 4 wins out. The Pentium III 1.2GHz is $100 more expensive than the 1.6GHz Pentium 4, and doesn't offer much more performance. As far as your claim of a 2GHz Pentium 4 performing like a 1GHz Pentium III, I cannot see that as possible given these results. Of course, compared to other solutions, it is still far from being the best choice in price/performance. RDRAM or DDR both offer much better alternatives. But I'd like to see your benchmarks, if you think you can find different results. wanna_bmw
