Kap, Re: "This is why the Tualatin 1.2GHz Celeron is easily overclocked to 1.5GHz. Intel is down-binning them not to humiliate P4. This is a stupidity of the highest degree."

Didn't Milo just post something about Athlon XP chips overclocking to 1.7GHz or higher? AMD must be downbinning them because they don't want to flood the market with new chip releases, but if they have these speeds, they wouldn't need the quanti-speed ratings. It's stupidity of the highest degree. But hopefully, they won't change a thing! <g>

P.S. Overclocking a chip to a certain speed doesn't mean that the chip can actually reach that speed in volume. That goes for both Celeron and Athlon XP.

Kap,
Do you really believe your statement?

"This is why the Tualatin 1.2GHz Celeron is easily overclocked to 1.5GHz. Intel is down-binning them not to humiliate P4. This is a stupidity of the highest degree."

I simple answer please. You don't think that at Intel they are always trying to achieve the highest bin splits possible given a known yield trade-off......hmmmmm. You know Intel doesn't go after a small niche market on these, don't you think they would want to ensure they could produce volumes (several million)....

I wonder sometimes if people forget Intel supplies THE WORLD, when new chips are introduced they are consumed by the world demand...sure supplies will be tight, given this they have a certain responsibility to deliver some volume (in demand). Remember Intel volume in respect to AMD volume.

and yes before the remarks.. blah blah blah...amd volume is getting higher these days also
