Searle, haven't you heard. The US spent reams of dough in the 1960's, '70's, '80's and '90's. Paying farmers to not produce, people not to work, IRS agents to harrass productive citizens. Dumping huge reams of money, for example, to dig a 12 billion dollar hole in Texas that now sits there without a purpose, spending billions to dig a huge hole in Boston for transportation--a 2 1/2 billion project now reaching 12 billion and likely 20 billion before it is over.

Cough, cough. The airlines are at least worthy of saving and their plight will save us an equal amount of $$$ in lower oil prices.

The US was probably moving towards a depression even before the attacks. Spend or die. What else can we do at this point?
