One of my favorites is a tiny one (BFS). Its properties are located in Wash DC/Baltimore region---an area not expected to suffer as badly as others from an economic downturn, and which owns (among other things) the type of community shopping strip centers that should continue to do well.

HMT (Host Marriott) looks like a depressed bargain right now, too, but less predictable than other types of REITS, I suppose.

I'm NHR and UHT a couple of health care REITS. They've traded well as the sector has been fairly hot. I've also been in and out of the office space REIT, CLI, recently and follow closely.
