Note that it would be pretty tough for Kumar to upgrade Intel since he's already got it at a buy. In fact, it's hard for me to remember a time when he didn't have the stock rated a buy. His position has consistently been that Intelis an excellent company that should be bought and held over the long term.

Given his employment history, though, most people assume a degree of bias present in his Intel opinion that might not be in other stocks.

True, He had nothing less than a Buy on this stock. However, he downgraded it at the start of Sept2000 from Strong Buy---he hit the high Intel.
I believe that he has been one that had trouble with the rating system. I have often seen him make very negative comments but does not downgrade to market perform.

I am not expecting an upgrade but if it was to come, it could have a big impact coming from an analyst that got the top on the stock.

Also given his employment history, he may have some good contacts inside Intel and could get in front of other analysts IF (big IF) there is a turnaround in the industry. Nobody believes the PC industry is going to rebound in a big way upon the XP launch but I think it is worth a shot to go against the "experts". Still hoping for a similiar outlook from Intel as we got from Dell; Dell was a shocker to some.
