I hope this is the last round of layoffs necessary. It's a *bad* thing going forward for the people who lose their jobs, for the economy, for the ability of the company to respond quickly to customer needs and to innovate. This is true regardless of what it does for the P&L and the shareholders in the short term. These things are part of the business cycle and this cycle is particularly violent. It's a morale destroyer if you have to keep doing multiple layoffs. You don't want a continuously uncertain workforce. You end up with HWP.

All that speculation about a merger last night, it sounded like this had turned into the Yahoo board. Maybe that's a bottom indicator<g>?

yep. for the first time in many many years, we've been damaged ON OUR OWN SOIL, a great city is in tatters, and we're going to war. What a dandy time for layoffs! those people are most appreciative.
