I fully support you in this issue. My own understanding of the Israel-Palestine situation is rudimentary, and I feel that I could learn a lot from an intelligent discussion by responsible posters, but the dialogue keeps getting hijacked, as it were. Maybe someone should start a moderated Israel-Palestine discussion thread, and be ruthless about banning people who cross the line. I have some candidates for people who should be pre-banned, but it would probably be more politically correct to allow them their one opportunity to show that they can't behave. They have the right to free speech, but they don't have a right to an audience.

nuanced discussion not possible right now. As I said in my earlier guideline posts, this thread needs to establish a personality, an accepted protocol that all participants feel they have a stake in preserving. I think we have made excellent progress but that culture of reasoned inquiry is not yet sufficiently established to automatically moderate the hot issues. Please understand, I've never done this before and I do NOT appreciate some of the nasty cracks I'm getting in PM's about my supposed biases...good grief. I've met some great folks these past four weeks. I'm sure we'll be able to deal with this and get back on course. Best regards, --ken/fl
