Pravin: Once Northwood comes out, Intel will have most benchmarks changed so that 512 KB is essentially required.

This may well be the case already (I don't know the exact memory footprint of the major "Intel-influenced" benchmarks), with memory bandwidth being stressed as much as it is. Some P4 Xeon benchmarks would clarify it, but I haven't seen any benchmarks using "consumer" apps to compare with (logical, since this is not the market that the Xeon targets).

Pravin,

And don't underestimate the 512 KB cache. Once Northwood comes out, Intel will have most benchmarks changed so that 512 KB is essentially required.

We will be hearing a lot about SETI@Home. Northwood will have spectacular scores here, because a work unit will fit inside L2.
