BMW, >If hard core AMD investors can start questioning AMD's products, then Intel has really done a great job of marketing. This guy seemed like he had a decent amount of knowledge about PCs, so for him to complement the Intel marketing on having a clear and compelling argument, it comes across as quite a complement.

In my experience with Intel marketing, they do a highly professional job. They always show up with the data you asked for previously, answers to questions, concise roadmaps, excellent presentations, etc., etc. They also take your feedback very seriously, regardless of your size (well, I guess if I'd been with a too-small group, they wouldn't have paid a call).

Many people here have argued that heat sinks falling off has a very slim chance of happening, but if you were in charge of purchasing the systems, would you leave it up to chance?

Wouldn't give me warm fuzzies at all. What if the heatsink is poorly attached or cracked. Might overheat the CPU to the point of flakiness, if not meltdown.

Tony

wanna_bmw,

But having the fan bearings seize up, either on the CPU or the power supply after a few years is not at all uncommon. It has happened to several systems that I use.

Fans do indeed fail often enough after a few years.

Heat Sink are hard to fall off. Although I have seen boards and chips jarred loose after a cross country shipment on a truck. A mistake in manufacturing when you attach the heat sink, and poof, you burn out a complete computer ! Not acceptable to any computer manufacturer ! This will cause all screwdriver shops to pause and rethink. AMD does need to fix this in a hurry.

BMW - Re:"...watching the video of the burning Athlons."

We will have a tailgate BBQ at 3Com this Sunday before the 49ers game. I think that I will get an Athlon to start the charcoal.

This will be a cost effective solution given the low ASP for the FireStarter (tm). Great entertainment too.
