Earlier this week, an unidentified administration official leaked to the news media that Bush's security team was working on a plan for a Palestinian state and that it would keep pushing its own proposals. I don't suppose that the plan is to carve out a piece of Montana for the Palestinians. Nonetheless, Sharon really does not need to grandstand on the issue, since they will have the final word on any settlement, as would any member of the nuclear country club. The sad and troubling part is that these people have been fighting for over five thousand years, and peaceful coexistence is simply not even a remote possibility, especially when one side's mandate is the total elimination of the other side.
