I think this is a very difficult time to be a pacifist. I've never been one, but having come of age during the Viet Nam war

I'm not a pacifist, either, even though my personal approach is pretty non-confrontational and definitely non-violent. Some things are worth fighting for and sometimes you have to fight, but those things and times are probably rarer for me than for most people.

I am accepting of pacificism in individuals although I don't think I've ever known one. It's well within my range of tolerance. I don't think, though, that it's a viable posture for countries.

I find myself agreeing with the talk and actions of a president for whom I didn't vote and with whom I disagree on many things.


I think we're lucky that Bush is in the White House. If Gore were taking this measured and deliberate approach, I don't know if he'd have such nearly-unanimous support.
