Are we having fun yet, E?

I hope so. At least not having hard feelings on either side is a start. I think you type a lot faster than I do, so it may take me a while to work through some responses.

Now, I did name-call you an intellectual elitist (not too bad of a name to be called).

You did speak these words: Lies were promulgated by local politicians and the Hearst press to stir the people into a deluded, cruel and ignoble frenzy.

Who are "the people?" Further, were these people so stirred? If they were not, then this had nothing to do with the eventual internment. If, on the other hand, they were so stirred -- do you honestly believe that you would have been stirred along with everyone else included in "the people?" If you tell me that, yes, you would have gone right along with all these frenzied people and become frenzied yourself ... than I retract my name-calling and apologize to you forthwith. You are not an elitist after-all.

E, I don't recall saying that I now believe what we did was wrong. I don't know whether it was or not. You don't know either, inasmuch as you are not in possession of the same set of facts that were available to those responsible for making the decision at the time. I for one would suppose that those facts included more than the latest edition of the Hearst newspaper. Moreover, not a one of us will ever be able to prove that no acts of espionage or sabotage, or other dastardly deeds, would have occurred had the internment never been done. History it what it is, and we cannot re-invent it to prove a point.

I have to retire with my two Goldens, as it is their bedtime and they can't stand to sleep alone. I will try to respond further over the weekend. Have a good evening.
