well, i've heard that several hedge funds did cover shorts - obviously prices were tempting, especially in the big cap techs.
also, most people are presumably aware that war is usually greeted with rallies, especially when the enemy is absolutely certain to lose (in this case the Taliban - no doubt it will be easy to unseat them).
this time there's only one difference, and that is the increased 'event risk'. OBL is not to be taken lightly imo - his televised threat IS meaningful.
