The form of the calcium is supposed to be the determinant in it's effectiveness. Calcium Carbonate, the most widely used form, Tums, etc. is not as easily absorbed as is Calcium Citrate. The citrate form claims to be easier to digest and utilize than the carbonate form. However, I recently heard a TV doctor say in an interview that new tests show there is not really that much difference in how much gets into your system. But Paul Harvey advertises CitriCal, and he is always right, right? :-)

I take a calcium citrate/magnesium oxide cap once or twice a day to supplement my diet, along with a zinc cap. The brand name is TwinLab mfgd by Twin Laboratories in NY state. At the vitamin counter in supermarkets and drugstores.
