Why should there be heavy pressure on both sides? You yourself admit that the Palestinians were starting to recover and do quite well prior to the resumption of intifadah. By your own account, that ended with the start of violence. Does this not say anything to you? Is the point completely lost on Palestinians? That violence will be rewarded with violence, and poverty? I think the pressure needs to be put on the PA, which did not adhere to Oslo and yet expected Israel to make its concessions. The blame lies squarely with the Palestinians, who could have their own state by now.

Arafat is close to an irrelevancy, which does not bode well for peace efforts. Not that he wanted peace, but Hamas and Hezbollah certainly don't--they are fighting a war to the death & they don't care if it takes 100 years. How does one address that type of situation....?
