Milo, <I guess that Billion Cash isn't good for anything is it?>

Imagine how many ad spots AMD could have bought with $220M. Those would have gone a long way toward actually improving AMD's brand image and ASP.

Correction:

Only about $190 million of their "Total cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments" is in actual cash or cash equivalents. $664 million is in short term investments, which are not as easy to become liquid if AMD needed it. Finally, $39 million is in long term investments, which aren't useful if AMD really needed the money. Also, consider that AMD borrowed $334 million last quarter, giving them a total of $750 million in long term debt, while only paying back $48 million. Finally, they have over $1 billion in total liability that they will eventually have to pay for.

A $200 million loss this quarter certainly isn't going to come from a bucket of bills totaling $1 billion in the back room.
