JDN,

Though Israel and the United States are friends, it is not like the relationship between us and the British. Israel has her agenda, and the United States has its own. Further it is a fallacy to believe that without United States aid, that Israel would be quickly overwhelmed by the Arabs. Israel now has a significant arms industry that makes everything from small arms to jet fighters and nuclear bombs.

Israel's objective is to remain a independent state with safe and secure borders. The United States' objective, is to make sure that Israel never feels so threatened for her survival, that they launch nuclear bombs on the Arabs. Though these goals are similar, they are not the same thing.

I cannot comprehend America abandoning Israel. Sharon is speaking what he believes. At worst he may not have appreciated that he should have spoken privately first. But it could all be dis-information. I believe Israel is far more of a match for it's enemies than any one understands. When a democracy meets ignorant masses, the ignorant masses are doomed. No conventional war could destroy Israel.
