I don't know how meaningful such a debate would be. Many of the people we hold in the most esteem use aliases. They sing, they dance, and they teach us how to laugh.

I grant you that aliases may sometimes be used for sinister purposes. However, I don't think there is anything intrinsically disreputable about using an alternate name. It would depend on the purpose.
