I think the idea was that communism would only work if accepted world-wide, because then everyone accept the idea of a global commune... it just was never going to work outside a closed society.

Capitalism starts from reality. So it works, even though it
isn't perfect. Communism might well work if it began from a perfect start... and even then, I don't see how it would survive past a couple of generations, if some worked harder, gained more, and wanted (rightly - IMO) to keep the more of the fruits of their own labour...

I guess I'd never make a communist after all. And that's ignoring the share ownership bits. (and don't I wish I could, right now...)
