I have been told by Canadian friends and associates that, on a comparative basis, short-term capital gains are taxed less, thus encouraging trading by investors without formal traders' status.

In the US, there are stringent criteria to qualify as "traders" in order to benefit from the special tax treatment granted by IRS.

Some other stocks jumping in AH trading, possibly because of the JNPR results.

JDSU trading 9.37 x 9.40, closed at 8.95
AMCC trading 11.75 x 11.77, closed at 10.84.
