To: marginmike who wrote (127883 ) 10/6/2001 12:40:21 PM From: JRI Read Replies (3) | Respond to of 436258 MM- I don't think its wise to fight the "multi-front" war at this time.....getting Bin Laden/getting rid of Taliban/Al Queda network is enough for now. Sure, we need to do everything we can to get moderates in power in Iraq, Iran, etc. But I think we do the current task great harm by not working with moderate Arabs, or really anyone who wants to get Bin Laden. We can always turn back against Iran, or other nations or groups. But to escalate this into a multi-front conflict is not wise right now, IMO. MM, of course, i do respect your opinion, and what I opine as Haim's opinion, but I also know that you guys are likely not, and will never be a majority opinion in the U.S. Most Americans, I believe, want peace in Israel. They are sympathetic to the Israeli position, but they are also understand that most of that area of the world is Arab/Muslim. Any destruction of fundamentalist Muslims (in the name of peace in Israel) that turns moderate Muslims against the West (in large number) is a dangerous move, and will not be supported. That's why opinion polls have rated Bush so highly here- the American people understand what Bush is trying to do. Hopefully, there is a 3rd way...which would be piece-meal dismantling of fundamentalist Muslim terror network, country by country. Its going to take a lot of time. Ultimately, if moderate Muslim and Jews can not learn to live together in the Middle East, I really don't know what the solution is. It will take compromise from both sides. Re: Sharon's comments. Badgering the White House in the public press is not the best method to get YOUR WAY. It never has been, and I doubt it'll work this time.
