This thread seems to be in quite close agreement on the profiling issue. The distinction between profiling, or assessing, and harassing, is the hard one in theory and in practice. The cops who are trying as efficiently as possible to catch those engaged in illegal activity may feel just as innocent of ill intent as those they choose to scrutinize closely feel harassed.
