Merced, Williamette, US4, McKinley (and now Hammer) all seem to have slipped about 2 years from their original tape-out date. P4 was supposed to tape-out about 6 mo after Merced and it did just that. McKinley a year after Merced and it took 1.5 years after Merced TO. US4 took eternity from its original tapeout and Hammer is now getting there. Merced was no worse in execution than any of these, but was horrible in terms of PR management.

BTW, my point is not to defend Merceds execution. But rather, to point out these none of the others were executed any better (Athlon was an exception).
