Remember that the interview that you posted that was translated from Japanese in November (I think) of last year? In it, he claimed that a Hammer was due to tape out by the end of 2000. If that happened, and the chips were mostly functional, it is possible that there could have been some chips available by late Q1/early Q2 of this year. So it is possible that some samples could have been out there for up to 6 months. With AMD using a cell-based design process, it is possible that they did have at least mostly functional processors.
