If you agree with this "A businessman, who may be a good person, but who commits a sin like lying about a material fact, etc., to complete a business deal, is a bad businessman then all of your points are moot. If a person can be a bad type of person, if follows then that a person can be a bad person. I was thinking a person could be bad at his job, but still good to his family and struggles at his job for the sake of his family. We are all guilty of not being perfect. Normally a contract provides the we to provide for recourse to remedy. Now, say a person sells bad products. If he doesn't know the product is bad, does this make him guilty of selling bad products? As for arbitrary rules, your statement clarifies mine. The less arbitrary the rules, the more efficient the commerce. Proverbs 22:29 Do you know a hard working man? He shall be successful and stand before kings! Proverbs often compares the lifestyles of the wicked and the righteous, and makes a strong case for living by god's pattern. The advantages of righteous living and the disadvantages of wicked living are pointed out. The kind of person we decide to be will affect every area of our lives. Although bad things to happen to good people, they are able to see opportunites in their problems and move ahead. The wicked, without God's wisdom, are unequipped to handle their problems. relevant verses: 3:16, 17 Proverbs has many strong statements about the benefits of wisdom, which include long life, wealth, honor, and peace. If these aren't happening to you, does that mean you are short on wisdowm? Not neccessarily. Instead of guarantees, these statements are general principles to make us think. In a perfect world, wise behavior would always lead to these benefits. Even in our troubled world, living wisely usually results in obvious blessings-but not always. Sometimes sin intervenes, and the blessing must be delayed until Jesus returns to establish his eternal kingdom. Whether or not we see immediate benefits we must "know these things are true by believing, not seeing" (2 Corinthians 5:7). We can be sure that wisdom ultimately leads to blessing. 10:3 Proverbs is full of verses contrasting the good man with the wicked. These statements are not intended to apply universally to all people in every situation. Some good people do starve. Rather, they are intended to communicate the general truth that the life of the person who seeks God fares better in the long run thn the life of the wicked person, which leads to ruin. These statements are not ironclad promises, but general truths. In addition, a proverb like this assumes a just government that cares for the poor and needy - the kind of government Israel was intended to have (see Deuteuronomy 24:17-22). A corrupt government often thwarts the plans of good men and women. 11:8 This verse, like 10:3, contrasts two paths in life, but is not intended to apply universally to all people in all circumstances. It does not mean God's people will never have problems or struggles. If a person follows God's wisdom, however, God can rescue him from danger, whereas a wicked person will fall into his own traps. Even if a good person suffers, he can be sure he will ultimately be rescued from eternal death.
