Hector Ruiz, president of No. 2 chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), says the Net can also be treacherous.

“Things move so fast. For example, the dot-coms — I don’t think any of us thought it would be as disastrous as it has been,” Ruiz said.

He suggests the industry learn to prepare better for shifts in buying patterns. “We will have to be somewhat better prepared. It’s an incredibly complex value chain we have, and consumers can change it overnight,” Ruiz said.

Milo, did you pick up on any of these phrases from the article?

"HP Chairman and Chief Executive Carly Fiorina acknowledges that a handful of the transferred engineers were unhappy, but she calls them ``a vocal minority'' based on surveys the company conducted."

"Most of the engineers eventually warmed to the idea, employees say, and nearly all of them accepted."

"one company official notes that the transfers, though unusual, were more humane than simply laying off the unneeded staff."

I am confused. The article says in the beginning:

"The strategy makes sense, of course: Intel wouldn't want the deal if the most talented people didn't come with it."

Then, speaking about the transfer:
" ..``HP Way'' of treating employees. But one company official notes that the transfers, though unusual, were more humane than simply laying off the unneeded staff."

So, who did Intel get, "most talented", or "unneeded"?

Milo, Re: 'HP engineers get choice: Go to Intel or else'

Carly is surely a piece of work, isn't she?

To my way of thinking she is throwing *THE CROWN JEWEL* into the trash as she says 'Because we're not going to be a chip R&D shop.'

PA-RISC ia an *AMAZING* thing to throw away.
