I thought my family was the only one. No computer at home and no cable, either. Why subject children to the garbage that passes for entertainment these days?

Videos are the way to go. I much prefer hearing my son sing all of the songs in Oliver than have him ask for the latest Pokemon, which he barely knows exists.

He loves my I Love Lucy videos.

Luddite, hell. Smart, if you ask me.

We don't drink Coke at dinner either, and my kids don't play Nintendo. They have tons of friends, most of which are over at our house all week long.

And they use the internet every day, to talk on IM with their friends (to decide when to get together all at once, rather than after 20 different phone calls), to research data for school projects, to learn about the environment, other countries and cultures. The list is endless and expands every day.

They frequently email me great web sites they have found on science, culture, art, history, politics or whatever. You and your kids are missing out on the best invention since the library. It is faster, better, fuller, and more fun. Give it a try.

Sure, they looked at porn sites and realized those are there and generally are the product of some pretty sick minds, but that is not really stimulating and entertaining like learning is for them or for me. Learning is the most stimulating thing an intelligent human can do.
