I believe the Taliban has an inflated sense of self-importance. They believe that they alone defeated the Soviets, conveniently forgetting that they defeated the Soviets with US know-how and armaments. Now, they are up against a coalition spearheaded by the US, with the support of numerous nations, including parts of the former Soviet Union. For their sake, their caves had better have more than one entrance and they best have a good supply of food and water laid in for the winter. They have no concept of what they have gotten themselves into.
