the Taliban and al-Quaida use mirror signals during the day and flashlight code at night to communicate. they do not use satellite or any wired communication devices. using those brought about the deaths of many chechnyan commanders in their war against russia as the russians were able to trace the signals and send in missiles to the hideouts. needless to say the russians would have sent in a few missiles in their war against the afghans IF they had been using those communication devices.
