Dan, Re: "AMD had higher speed numbers on their chips, Intel lost market share while AMD ASPs rose."

I don't think so. AMD's ASPs rose in 2000 due to a great economy and a new product line that was finally competitive with an Intel product. Now that product line is being treated by the consumer as obsolete. Maybe AMD's new branding will make a difference to some, but given the choice between equally priced AMD and Intel chips, the consumer has historically gone for the latter. This is 100% due to Intel branding.

Dan: Sorry Kash, but what we've seen doesn't support your post. When Intel had bing-bing-bing-ding echoing from every TV and radio day and night, but AMD had higher speed numbers on their chips, Intel lost market share while AMD ASPs rose.

You don't build brand and image for the best of times, you do it for the inevitable periods of fierce competition and / or poor economic situation.

Dan,

The facts are that you are clueless about what it takes to compete in this market.

As evidenced about your crowing about Athlon MP and laptop Palomino raising AMD ASPs to enable breakeven by AMD.

Admit it.

Learn from it.

Remember in war you are only as strong as your WEAKEST link.
